San Ramon Festival of Lights

San Ramon Festival of Lights

Home is Where the Heart Is, And Also Millions of Holiday Lights in San Ramon

Thanksgiving marks a traditional time for neighborhoods all over the San Ramon Area and beyond to start decorating for the holidays.  Families pile in their cars to stop by the Christmas tree lots, pick out the “perfect tree,” and take it home to decorate it.

Trains are delicately lined under the trees, giving even the most mature adult an excuse to play with locomotives.

Cookies are baked, presents are wrapped, and Christmas carols and pageants can be heard all through the neighborhoods of San Ramon.

But one San Ramon neighborhood takes Christmas to an entire new level.  Drive around the Vista San Ramon neighborhood in the next few weeks for an amazing holiday show reminiscent of National Lampoon’s Christmas vacation starring Chevy Chase.

The Festival of Lights

The “Festival of Lights” is an annual tradition for the families in the popular neighborhood across from Alcosta Community Center at the corner of Woodview Terrace Drive and Overlook Court.  Many of the 161 homes participate in the festivities which feature life size holiday decorations, lawns adorned with animated lit figures, garages transformed into holiday themes, entire homes lit up by strands upon strands of lights, and the popular animated nativity scene.

Visitors who choose to park their cars and walk around the neighborhood are often met by homeowners celebrating cheer and good will toward men and some hot chocolate. Donation bins are set up at the entrance and exit of the Vista neighborhood and all are welcome to fill them with donations to feed the hungry.

Voted one of the Best Holiday Light Displays

Spectators are more than welcome to enjoy the scenery in their cars, but residents of the popular “Festival of Lights” neighborhood warn of long lines and plenty of traffic.  The view is worth the wait as each home deserves an extra-long look.  This annual tradition draws spectators from all over the Bay Area and has been featured by Channel 5 in last year’s contest, “Best Neighborhoods for Holiday Home Decorations.”  And if you are lucky enough, you may even enjoy a visit from Santa who makes an appearance every year!

A Popular Neighborhood Chosen Because of this Tradition

Attracted by the abundance of holiday spirit, prospective home buyers specifically select locations where they can be a part of a neighborhood tradition.  When choosing a home, location is a top feature.  And a home whose location is enhanced by fun neighbors who give back to the community and invite others from all over to take part in their holiday spirit is a home worth more than any price tag can command.
