Whenever I sit down with someone for the first time a typical question that comes up is, “How did you get into real estate?” My answer is usually… “How much time to you have?” If I am going to tell you the story I have to do it right, and start from the beginning. With my Grandparents on my Father’s side, Maria and Emilio Continillo.
They moved to the United States from Italy in 1952.
My grandfather was a cabinet and furniture maker by trade in Italy. When he came to the united states he began working in construction. When they moved to California he continued to work in construction and also began developing properties which he kept and rented. As a kid growing up I saw firsthand what real estate development and management is all about.
My father followed in my grandfathers footsteps and became a contractor as well. In the 80s he build many custom homes. From a very young age my brother and I were out on the job-site while my dad worked. We learned a lot about the construction process and as we grew older started working with my dad. I worked with him for many years through many construction and remodel projects.
I went to college and received my degree in Psychology. During this time I learned a lot about communication and how important it is to listen and take each individuals needs into account. I have learned to pay attention to non verbal cues and be observant.
After college I began working in the mortgage industry as a processor for a broker. I obtained my license and worked as a loan officer for 5 years until I met my wife Cynthia, who is also a real estate agent. She was a huge influence in my transition from loan agent to Real Estate Broker. I got to see what she did everyday and I loved it. I wanted to do it too. She is very knowledgeable and was the perfect mentor for me as I got started in the sales side.
And so we started Villa Properties in 2010.

I learned about the mortgage business and how the financing process works. And finally I learned how the real estate process works and how to help my clients with one of the biggest decisions they will make in their lives. I have a passion for helping people with the real estate process, which comes from all of these experiences guiding me and preparing me for where I am today. – Mike Continillo

In 2007 I began focusing on foreclosure/REO sales for various asset management and banks. Through this process I have gained a great amount of experience and knowledge of the REO business. My business has grown exponentially and will continue to do so in the coming years.
